Company brochure for specialist scaffolding firm

Tone Scaffolding Services is a preferred supplier of access, protection and support solutions to many of the country’s biggest contractors. Established by MD Andy Needham in 1995, it serves a variety of locations throughout the UK from its eco-friendly 26-acre HQ in Outwood, Surrey – complete with geese, ducks and bees. It regularly lands new contracts, including a number of places of special interest, and it operates in a competitive world where relationships and company profile are crucial.

The Brief

I was initially approached to write copy for a new company brochure, which involved visiting sites, interviewing project managers and learning the nuts and bolts of scaffolding (pun intended). A year in, the brochure had become a potentially endless project, with new projects being added all the time. It was evident that it needed an editor to control the content and steer the production across the line. I was given responsibility for this, working closely with Andy Needham, designers Creative Wisdom and photographer Derek Goard to complete the content and get the brochure ready to print.

Progress

I began by collating all the existing content, discussing additional content with Andy and pulling together a content plan. This required some of the existing content to be dropped as it had grown stale. I arranged site visits with the photographer to get the story from project managers and make sure we had all the shots we needed. I also briefed Derek to go and shoot sites that needed better photographs. I then supplied all the words and pictures to Adrian at Creative Wisdom, who completed the layout. Within three months we had filled all the gaps in the existing content, gathered all the new content, completed the layout and achieved sign-off to print, on time and within the quoted budget.

Conclusion

Any narrative work, such as company brochures, reports and even websites, need an editor to ensure they don’t drift, wasting time and money. An experienced editor will take care of all aspects of production, from concept to print, making sure the whole project runs efficiently and fulfils the brief, giving you a quality piece of collateral on time and on budget.

“I’m very proud of the work we do here at Tone and I wanted that to come across in the brochure. I also wanted it finished! Tim took on the organisation needed to get it over the line, which meant liaising with our busy project managers – not always easy, especially 20 storeys up! I’m really pleased with the results.”
